The True Unsung Coolest Car(s) Of Miami Vice

Given that Miami Vice was the most important and influencial TV show ever, still remains one of my all time favorites and currently has a new movie in production, I thought, rewatching it, would seem like a solid idea.

Now, during that re-watch, I noticed, that one specific car basically made the show. And it’s not the one, you are thinking of right now!

I’m willing to bet, that most of you assosiate Miami Vice with this:

The Ferrari Testarossa. And while you really should be thinking of this instead:

The Corvette C3, which was convertet into a Ferrari 365 GTB Daytona Spyder, you’d still be wrong!
And no, it also ain’t this:

Think about it again and have a closer look-

That’s right!- EVERY(!) bad guy in this show- lawyer, dealer, killer, politician- EVERYBODY drives a W126 Mercedes S-class! And usually not just any boring stock variant of it, but a tricked out AMG version, König Special conversion or at least an example featureing a Zender, Lorinser or Brabus bodykit and a set of BBS, Zender, AMG Penta or Aero 3 rims and spoilers. Here and there the predecessor, the W116 was featured too, usually getting shot up though.

Producer and director Michael Mann, who is an outspoken Ferraristi, didn’t limit the show’s automotive costars just to his favorite auto maker and a handful of trendy, contemporary germans though.
